Interesting site, but it is not exactly unbiased. It sort of like you sending me to the DNC site for information on Delay. Also, even the newest data on this site is 8 years old.

Still, I don't see where it answers all my questions or supports your thesis. I still don't see a comparison of the rest rate on the speed regulated and speed unregulated portions of the Autobahn. I don't see any mention of the truck speed limits. The site limits the statistics to only the "good" West German portions of the interstate. The site claims US interstates are not built safely for high speeds while the German Autobahns are - seems like an argument for speed restrictions on the poorly constructed US interstates to me. Statistics on total rests or rests per capita for the two countries are meaningless (Americans drive a lot more on average than Germans). The rest rate per million vehicle miles travels actually show the US with a lower rest rate - which again seems to counter your thesis.

Is this the best statistics you have? Seem to me if you really look at what the guy is saying, you should support US speed limits (lower rests per vehicle mile in the US, less capable roads in the US).

So doesn't this support lower speed limits? There is little likelihood that driver license restrictions will be stiffened. You also aren't accounting for the generally superior condition of German vehicles. US inspection laws are generally a joke. Not so in Germany.

Autobahn. religion

Sigh, I don't get your argument. If you are arguing that higher speeds are safer, then it seems like statistics for the rest rate on unrestricted portions of the Autobahn could be compared to the restricted portion of the Autobahn to bolster your case. I cannot find such statistics, but I feel certain the exist.

Because they are not enforced. Everyone know that during rush hour the Police are not going to start pulling cars over. They have tried it, and all it does is create traffic jams.

speed

Sorry to hear that. I enjoy the 65 mph and 70 mph speed limits on certain roads in NC. I thought NC was one of the more reactionary states when it came to speed limits. Guess not.

Because I think in general laws should be obeyed. At least here in NC, at this time, I don't feel the speed limits are "pulled out of someone's butt" nor I do I think they are set to generate revenue.

If you don't think the speed limits are properly set in Il, work through the political system to have them changed. People who decide to only obey the laws they like need to become revolutionaries.

The data is the data, it comes from the agencies of both the US and German governments that deal with such things. As I stated, such a thing is not even relevant to...

Hard to prove one way or the other. I think the fact that Germany has one of the highest automobile accident rates of any northern European country tends to work against the argument that "Germany sought to minimize the number of crashes."
