My arguement is comparison of the road SYSTEMS. The autobahn as a road SYSTEM is safer than the US interstate.

How long do you think a free society can exist limiting everyone to the lowest common demonator? Not very long if it's carried into too many aspects of life. The result in the meantime is what we have right now, laws that are obeyed by 0.00000001% of the population at any given time. (speed limits specifically where traffic congestion doesn't force the issue.)

No, I am arguing that the autobahn is a safer SYSTEM of roads than the US interstate. The primary reason it is safer is because of DISPLINED driving. Secondary reasons include proper engineering based speed limits or lack there of, road condition, design, and signage. These are the things that make roads safer. The US mentality that slapping a low speed limit on a road makes it safe is utter and complete nonsense.

They aren't meant to be enforced on everyone. They can't be enforced. The government knows this. If they enforced the speed limits on everyone the golden goose would die. Roads would become parkinglots. Speed limits are selectively enforced. They are a tool to get around that pesky bill of rights and make money.

These nonsenical speed limits remain for those reasons and cause needless danger on the roads.

IL's corrupt "elected" officals will never give up the revenue. Governor Roddy has admitted it's about the revenue.

The road engineers are slaves to buttumptions and rules of thumb. The ones posting to usenet refuse to use actual data on road speed and collisions and instead refer to their table based on the performance of a model T driven by a 100 year old 4'11" 85lb woman with one eye that barely functions and brakes that haven't been serviced since FDR was in office. Then they or the elected officals add a factor of safety to that, and that becomes the upper bound speed limit. That's about as far from being pulled out of someone's butt as it gets.

Most of the roads I use, anyone with two eyes can take the data and show that the upper bound safe speed for the road is higher than the posted limit. The interstates and limited access highways being MUCH higher. Do you have a few million I can use to bribe the right people? For crying out loud, this the land of bribes for CDLs! Do you think a safety arguement is going to move these people? They put morons behind the wheel of semis who later end people through incompetence. It's about money and power in this state and governor roddy will veto any attempt to make the roads safer if it impacts revenue.

The city of chicago specifically states that the red light cameras are about revenue everytime they announce how much money they've brought in. Safety is not even mentioned, just the money. The underlying problems of the intersections are not addressed, the city simply seeks profit from them.

A safety arguement falls on deaf ears and continues to do so. There is one state legislator that believes in road safety and I've written him a number of times on these topics, and he's not even for my area.

Now you are going into surface and city streets, and yes there are problems when they were laid out in 16whatever. But even so, if true it only makes the USA look more idiotic.
