jaybird You admitted right there you don't enforce the LIMIT, you enforce an arbitrary number ABOVE the limit. ("far enough over the speed limit") Doesn't that, right there imply it's an okay law...

----- It's hazarous to drive, period. You can't justify not pulling over because it's hazardous. There's a few drivers in r.a.d. who seem to equate knowing how to steer with knowing how to drive. They ain't the same.

Knowing how to drive requires judgement... and the knowledge of what to do when driving conditions turn to poo.

Yes, because it sounds like what the original story described. Those conditions can be handled with...

= 08.J.06(5) When visibility is so limited that you can't see the edge of the road or other vehicles at a safe distance, it's time to pull off and wait for the rain or snow to ease up. It is best to stop at a rest area or exit the freeway and go to a protected area. If the roadside is your only option, pull off the road as far as you can, preferably past the end of a guardrail. Other drivers frequently strike vehicles parked at the side of the road. Respect the limitations of reduced visibility and turn headlights off and emergency flashers on to alert other drivers. =

It's pretty simple. When conditions dictate it's too dangerous to continue, you stop. You get out of and move a safe distance from the vehicle if that's what you determine is required. The situation might not be perfect, you may have to pull completely off on the shoulder and need a tow to get moving again. You might get wet. That's the breaks. You shouldn't have allowed yourself to be caught in those conditions.

Dust storm procedures are usually posted along the highways where they occur. Slow down, keep moving, don't drive on the shoulder. -----
