Adrian says... Completely illogical and I think his colleague thought so too. His argument was that because I didn't have a numberplate on the trailer, they wouldn't be able to tell who I was if I had an accident.

I pointed out to him that there was two numberplates on the unit and that as it was a rental unit which was hired from Camerons at Barnsley, it would appear registered as such, that the name of the company on the trailer no longer existed and that I was an agency driver so the results wouldn't help but the tachograph and my driving licence in my wallet both with my name on would.

I did have a trailer numberplate but had no way of securing it and it was pointless putting it on as it'd fall off 300 yards down the road presenting a danger to other road users.

Anyway, it was obvious he was in a bad mood so I took my £20 fine, put on the numberplate as he directed and set off. Half a mile down the motorway, I saw it skidding off into L2 and the same copper having to stop and go retrieve it.
