On the news this morning there was something about a drunk driver with no licience, or insurance etc. They had something along the lines of a 'road safety expert' on there. She said that we need to educate drivers about drink driving, and speeding in urban areas. The bit about speeding seems to me like a much better approach than what most of the 'experts'-politicians say. She doesn't say that we need to fine everybody etc., and she doesn't say everywhere, only urban areas. I think urban areas are where speeding can be a big problem. In some areas it can be dangerous even to drive at the speed limits, but you still get people speeding. I think she's thinking along the right lines, wouldn't the roads be good if everybody thought that way?

done graduated Personally I think the points system should be abolished. Banning should relate to the specific offence, not to...

I think driver education would be a better way for the country to go. Their attempts to enforce the limits have been complete failures, so alternative methods may work better. Bearing in mind how much the government values lives, and how much they spend on speed enforcement etc it may not be as costly as they may think. They could quite easily give free driving tuition, even if it's just a big lecture provided by the local IAM group.
