I read the reference and I can see a lot of different ways that this could have gone down. For instance, maybe the girl came up the ramp at merging speed and found herself rapidly closing on a car in the right lane and moved into the left lane to pbutt. The LC driver meanwhile tried to cut her off by speeding up (again why was he in the left lane?). I see this happen all the time - drivers who feel they have the right to speed up in an effort to keep other from moving over to pbutt a slower vehicle. Surely you have seen this also. After that I can't see where there is any excuse for the behavior of either driver. Tailgating is bad. Doing a brake check to intimidate another drivers is bad. Speeding up to cut off another driver is bad. They both should receive reckless driving tickets. If either driver had driven in a responsible manner, this tragedy would have been avoided. Seems to me that they were actually two of a kind - Arrogant speeders who felt they owned the road and who had no consideration for their fellow drivers. Personally I have no problem with people driving over the speed limit as long as they remember that the willingness to speed doesn't give them the right to harbutt other drivers.
