To all gas hogs Lose the SUV or STFU 2337
Jim E Having respect for oil scarcity is not "goofy" in the slightest. If you want to talk about "power freaks," look at all the superficial punks who think they need 300hp to cruise...

Our SUV (Nissan Pathfinder 2003) gets better gas mileage than our previous mini-vans. It gets more than our truck that we use a lot as well. Just as much space as a mini-van but much nicer looking. (Who finds a Dodge Caravan, which hasn't been refreshed in years, appealing?)

We had a car at one time, a Chrysler Cirrus in 1998. It sucked butt. It was one of the larger cars that Chrysler produced, but it was very small compared to our former vehicles (two Plymouth Voyagers), had poor electronics and got not-that-great gas mileage.

When we upgraded to a 1998 Nissan Pathfinder, it was like heaven. We had all the room to store things and tow it around, like my bikes, furniture, vacationing items (we do a lot of shopping at stores on vacation), etc. In fact, we filled our SUV top to bottom on our last trip after stopping at IKEA and two outlet centers. You couldn't do that in a compact hybrid vehicle.

Why get a "gas sucking" SUV instead of a "hybrid" or "compact"? Space. We utilize our space (mom, dad, myself + goods) some of the time (no one drives around with a 100% loaded vehicle all the time) quite well. I drive a 2001 Honda Civic and might upgrade to a more powerful vehicle (200 HP, 2.0L, DOHC, performance vehicle) that gets less gas mileage just for the hell of it, because its fun to drive performance cars. My Civic is very cramped compared to the SUV; at least I can drive fast in it without worry (I don't like driving SUV's that much) and round corners in my suspension-tuned car :-)
