Totaled my new car, aren't NJ driver's wonderful 2742

Carl Taylor

Have you ever driven on a road with other traffic?

A car in the lane beside you could suddenly veer into the side of you, causing you both to crash, REGARDLESS of what speed you are doing. 10mph, 30mph, 50mph, 100mph, it could still happen.

Even if you are the most cautious driver in the world, you could still be the victim of such an incident.

Stationary hazards are different. You can drive at 100mph on a straight stretch of road on a sunny day, and still stop in time to avoid junk. Surely you must agree?

Of course, anyone who drives at such a speed so that they cannot stop for anything that might be around the corner, or cannot stop within the clear distance ahead that they can see, is an idiot. Even if they are driving under the speed limit at the time.

Old Wolf Me? Never. My life is like those car commercials where it's always an empty road and nice scenery. I don't think I've ever seen another car, let...

That's his choice, is it not? On average, the risk of serious injury in such an event is less important to Cory than the number of hours of his life wasted in commuting. Who are you to say otherwise? Note that the other driver was 100% at fault, so they don't get a say in this.

Plus you still haven't explained why people shouldn't go at 100mph on road where there is no other traffic and no places for a rabbit to hide at the side of the road.

Finally, you still haven't explained why you think Cory would have been safe at 70MPH (or whatever the local limit is), but unsafe at 80MPH, or why 70MPH is some particularly interesting cutoff point, and why that cutoff point should differ depending on what area you are in.
