I was dean's list, but because of the college's policies (it was over the teachers-department heads for these clbuttes) I couldn't skip some of the prerequisite clbuttes. My guess is they wanted a few thousand extra of my dollars from stretching it out, but whatever.
I did fine (3.5 or higher) while working, and still had enough free time for a social life and a full time job. It really wasn't that difficult.
I was managing that poohole though, everything from inventory, hiring, training, then the eventual firing, dealing with vendors, and a bit of accounting. This was in addition to all the stuff the high school kids did too. Running a restaurant for someone else is really quite an experience, just not one I wanted to continue with for the rest of my life.
And I had shown to employers that I could show up 40hrs-week even with other commitments, 12 months a year. Of course, my current job came from who I knew, not what I knew I or what I'd been trained on.
That's what I tried, it didn't work as advertised. A 4 year program would have been a 5 year program because of how the second college kept delaying me from being able to get into clbuttes. (They did this to several other people too, maybe they were dumb, maybe they were trying to rip me off.)
I found a rather unique situation with a company that was more concerned with my abilities than my certifications. I was hired in sales through a friend, and after I had fixed my boss' computer a few times and helped the programmers debug some scripts I was moved up to a technical job.
Several crapshoots worked out really well since then, and now I have a job that never feels like work. Because I like the job I've turned down offers that were significantly higher since I don't have any debts I have to pay off, and I can live quite comfortably as it is.
Any time I want to get a toy that is beyond my immediate means I just find a few side jobs to do and make the money before I buy. People I know are always getting virii, adware, or breaking their stuff.
Exactly, one of my friends can't figure out why he's prepetually broke even though he makes more than me, when I've watched him take credit card cash advances to buy beer and pay his rent cause the night before was a bad night at the casino.
