There's always your rare special case. But for us mere humans who have degree programs that require more credit hours and don't get special dispensations from the department and go to schools that don't offer courses in such a manner to allow flexibility, it doesn't apply.

Proivided you're one of the lucky people who have the stars and planets align to finish in 3 years. Otherwise, you still finish in four except have debt dragging you down.

Which is irrelevant to 99.9% of the population who won't be able to finish in 3 years.

It's a question of finishing with or without debt in the same amount of time for the vast majority of the population.
