Totaled my new car, aren't NJ driver's wonderful 2770

I've read a lot about the Carter AFB style carbs and I like them in theory. I have yet to try one. They seem like they could be very efficient carbs. The general concensus seems to be that most engines make more power with a Holley. I don't know if that's a fact or not, as maybe the AFB wasn't tuned properly. If the price is right on eBay maybe I can snag an Edelbrock AVS for a reasonable price.

Another though I had when the 460 was gonna be my dialy driver (may yet be) was to use a Quadrajet. I've talked to two guys who use them on 460's with great success and their mileage was pretty decent to boot. Quadrajets are cheap, so if I do end up driving the Galaxie every day I may try a Quadrajet. I've rebuilt a few Quadrajets and really like the design. The only thing I don't like about them is how small the fuel bowl is.

Too bad it didn't have torque boxes and there was rust in those frame rail joints. Still, a lot of good parts on that car, and it can be fixed, it will just cost...

As far as aesthetics though, Holley's look right on Fords to me, whereas anything else doesn't (except Autolite's). Ford always used Holley carbs on their high performance engines, so that just fits the image. As long as the 460 is gonna be a toy it'll have a Holley, though I am tempted to try the other carbs even if just as a learning experience.
