Baloney. If you toss a match into a pail of gasoline it may ignite before the match even touches the fuel. If you toss a match into a pail of diesel the flame on the match will be doused. If you splash of gasoline on a pile of brush and toss a match on it, it may ignite before the match lands, depending on how long the gas has been sitting there and giving off fumes. When the gas is ignited there will be a small explosion as the vapours ignite, and the rest of the gas will catch from that. If you start a fire with diesel it will accelerate slowly. It will burn longer because it burns slower.
Maybe there was no one up ahead. It takes time to put people in place. The escapees may exit before they get to the roadblock.
I am trying to use my head to figure out how the police can track the car quietly once the suspect has noticed them and takes off at high speed. They could use a helicopter, but very few police departments can afford them.
If it is my old Saturn it is worth a lot. I don't care about yours. So if they take yours you can bite the loss, but if they take mine I would like them to try to recover it.
