There are two sets of diversions in operation on the south side of Leicester. The first has been in place for over a week becuase road works have closed the Broughton Astley bypbutt which means that you cannot get into the village from the B4114.
On Friday they also closed the level crossing for repairs at Narborough railway station for 10 days meaning that you cannot get to Littlethorpe (the village where I live) via Narborough from the B4114.
So, we have two villages that are currently inaccessible from the B4114. So what do they do? They set up two series of diversions that use the same set of roads for a good part of their route. What's more the route is along the the B582 from the Foxhunter roundabout to the Blaby bypbutt, which has to be one of the top rush-hour bottlenecks for miles around. Just to compound the mess, the yellow diversion signs do not distinguish between the two diversion destinations. That's not too much of a problem for locals, but pity the poor visitor to the area.
All of this mess is in addition to the road works at M1 junction 21 which has resulted in more traffic around the Foxhunter roundabout. This is because of people (like my wife) avoiding the motorway juction at the moment and travelling to places such as Loughborough using the local back roads through Desford.
How incompetent can planners get?
