Twolane sliproad onto motorway 1623

Cessna172

I would be *very* worried if on joining a motorway my view was ever obstructed by fauna. It has only to me happened twice in 20 years - last year was one time when a trailer load of sheep escaped on the M62 W bound. One of the few times the VMS display was actually meaningful.

It is common on the back roads where I live to have sheep or cows being moved.

Worth having some idea how busy it is if you can get an early line of sight to pick your gap. Match speed for the gap and watch out for the possibility of someone from L2 pinching it before you get there.

Brake lights going on almost invariably causes chaos behind. Whatever happens don't panic and if the worst happens use the hard shoulder to avoid causing a collision. Stopping dead with the right indicator on is unfortunately one common behaviour of nervous drivers that deadlocks the sliproad completely at busy times of day. It is then *very* difficult to get out at all safely from a standing start. And mistakes become ever more likely as a furious long queue builds up behind the hapless nitwit.

This scenario occurs with monotonous regularity at a local junction.

Regards, Martin Brown
