Undertaking 894Well, having spent the last couple of weeks driving in France, perhaps our UK drivers aren't that bad. Yes, I know you can encounter idiots on any road in any country...
Undertaking 893If there was somebody gaining on me in Lane 1 i would see him and...
me puts hand up, I'm Mr unlucky pleased to meet you...
About 12 years ago I got pulled by the police for riding my motorbike in the inside lane of the m6 at 70mph, it was devoid of traffic for about a mile ahead and had been for the previous couple of miles, and all the tossers were nose to tail in the outside 2 lanes, a scene replayed daily up and down the country.
We were just over a mile from the services when he put his blue lights on, and I decided that rather than stop immediately on the hard shoulder I would do the mile to the services where it was much safer to stop, I indicated left and pointed to the services sign to let him no my intentions.
Why didn't you not stop when we first indicated you to do so was his first question, and I explained that as it was only about 60 seconds to the services it was much safer for me to continue as more people are end on the hard shoulder than on the carriageway. Very sensible he says, which is more than can be said for your riding. When I asked what he was on about he said that they had observed me undertaking for the last 3 miles, and considered it reckless and that I was being reported.
Now knowing that he had decided I tried to probe what exactly he considered dangerous about my riding, I wasn't swinging between lanes, or speeding so what was his problem but he wasn't for answering.
So the summons arrives and I turn up at court and plead not guilty.
The case is adjourned several times, until finally it comes to hearing day. The CPS then come over and say that they will accept a lesser plea of careless driving, my initial thoughts are to tell em to stick it up their arse however my solicitor advises me that I should accept the offer.
At the time I was a motorcycle courier, my solicitor advises me that it is highly likely that the magistrate will simply accept the word of the policemen and convict me regardless of anything I say and being reckless driving I am likely to be banned for a year, big fine and have to do a retest. He says that if I accept the careless driving charge I'll get 3 points, a lesser fine and can keep my licence.
Against my better judgement I agree, whereupon the magistrate bans me anyway, f***ing police, f***ing solicitors and f***ing magistrates wankers the lot of em.
