Most speed limits can be exceeded by 100% totally safely under the right conditions.
Most can be exceeded by 50% totally safely under most conditions.
There seems to be an increasing spread of reducing limits before roundabouts in our area, to make sure that you're not going more than 50 about 1-4 mile before incase you can't stop before you get to the roundabout.
Won't surprise me if we end up before long with 5 mile an hour limits within 100 yards of all parking spaces, reducing to 1 mph at the start of the parking space, 1-2 mph half way through it, and another 0 mph limit at the end of it just to make sure we have stopped.
This pathetic obsession with speed limits as the only factor in road safety is completely unbelievable. These are the people who should be banned:
-those who drive too slowly, causing bunching, frustration and overtaking -lane hogs -those who can't manage to stay in lanes -who are completely clueless about how to join leave motorways, dcs, etc -who have been driving for years and still haven't managed to work out how to negotiate roundabouts efficiently. -who are oblivious to other road users -boy racers who drive fast only to show off -anyone who drives dangerously fast (there are many places where this could be 25 in a 30 limit) -etc -etc -etc
