that is the *best* non sequitur response i've ever seen... ;-)

this seems like a pretty rough all-or-nothing dichotomy... i agree that a dog on the loose is a violation of the law, but remember, every once in a while, there is an exceptional circumstance. my wife and i have a little yorkshire terrier that we adore... this dog lives in our house and only goes outside on a leash, in our well-fenced and secured backyard, or when we take it with us on a bike ride or drive.

in the 18 months we've had our dog there have been a couple times she's gotten out for a few minutes... she's fast and it doesn't take much of an open door for her to slip out. we work really hard to train her not to run out but dogs, like human beings, are seldom 100% obedient. ;-)

i'd hate to find my yorkie at the end of your spear because of an exceptional instance of her sneaking into your yard.

we keep our eyes open for dogs on the loose and animal control out here is *very* responsive. they usually have the proverbial dog catcher out here in a matter of minutes. we call not just for our safety and peace of mind but for the dog's safety--a dog on the loose is bound to get hit by a car. not to mention of course it could attack a kid or be a nuisance. owners get tired of the hbuttle of having to go down and find the dog at the shelter and they seem to eventually secure the dog or give up and the let the dog be adopted or destroyed, which i figure is better than a neglected dog anyway.

but you don't ask them to keep the dog under control first, it's throw spears first, ask questions later? ;-)

well and the trappee's lawyer... ;-)
