That wouldn't be a continuing nuisance. Some people let their dogs run loose and some people walk their dogs on leashes, encouraging them to poo on other people's lawns. Those who have heard the story before, bear with me...

Husband saw leashed dog pooting on our lawn while the owner watched. Husband asked woman to clean it up. Woman refused and walked away. Husband followed her to her home nearby. Woman threatened to call cops. Husband said 'Do it.' Cop came, listened to stories. Made woman go back and clean up the poo.

I know. We used to have a fox terrier who managed to escape every once in a while either by forcing the door, digging under the fence or breaking the rope (and eventually chain) that secured him to the post in the back yard. He would be gone for days, return filthy and exhausted, drink a gallon of water and sleep for a day. The dog had no sense at all and would bark viciously at babies in strollers, although he backed away as they advanced. He would try to pick a fight with a large friendly lab down the street who ignored him -- until one day Junior peed on him. Fortunately Junior could outrun the lab. It would be nice if dogs could run free the way they used to, but that's just not possible in the city.

If it's a chronic loose stray, you may have no idea who the owner is. I guess you could throw a net over it and hope they wander by before the dog dies of starvation or the humane society truck gets there...
