I have a visual field problem which I've been getting tested for a while now and the specialists still don't know what is causing it. Recently though, they say I should have a binocular field test to see if I need to report it to DVLA. Needless to say, this has got me very worried, it's bad enough having the problem in the first place, but to have my driving license revoked would be a real blow. However the last thing I want is to be a danger to others on the road.
I have been reading up on the DVLA guidelines and found this at
"However, it must be stated that if the Esterman test is failed, even by one spot within the 20o limit, it is likely that this represents a significant scotoma which will lead to the loss of the driving licence".
Does anyone know what the 20o limit is? On previous field tests, my blind areas (in both eyes in different areas, with some overlap) are pretty close to above centre. The question is, how far is 20o? If it's a fair way out from the centre, I've had it! The ridiculous thing is, I only notice the blind spot for rapid up and down eye movements and driving is pretty much all side to side, which is no problem for me.
Does anyone have any experience of this? Any other useful information gratefully accepted.
Thanks, Rob
