If you're approaching a junction with a waiting car, and you're doing say 60mph (with a 60mph limit), and you suspect that the car may pull out, what would you do? Give a short flash of the lights, and watch the driver pull out and thank you? ie, worse than doing nothing. Give a long flash of the lights, which could be interpreted as either correctly, as a warning, or as an inviation to go? ie, there would probably be no benefit. Give a long horn warning, which would annoy local residents, and could be interpreted as road rage? The reason I ask is because I get this scenerio quite often on the way to work. Sometimes people don't go when they can do so safely, but instead pull out right when you're on top of them. I quite often take my foot off the gas too, but too much of that will irritate drivers behind, and encourage the drivers to go.
