Ed Chilada presented the following explanation : When it is absolutely safe to do so and sight lines permit it - I do as a matter of course cut corners. That however was not the reason I...

So the guy turned off immediately after being overtaken or are you quite a distance behind at this point? And when you say "got there".. where? To catching that other car up you mean.. so you didn't have to overtake him?

How many cars did he&you overtake anyway? You described the above overtake as "screaming past yet another vehicle". Why "yet another"? He'd only overtaken you at this point, yet your words imply he'd overtaken quite a few people.

If you were waiting to get around the tight bend (and horses don't trot so fast), then presumably this held you up for a moment and he would have been getting further away whilst you did so. So how come you caught him up without breaking the speed limit? Or was this guy still "screaming" along at "slightly over 30mph", in this 50mph limit...

Ed Chilada brought next idea : I remained quite some distance behind him all the time, just keeping him within...

If you're puzzled by what went on, then you don't know the full story or you're avoiding the whole story (by brushing your aggression under the carpet). As I said elsewhere, I think you should be concerned that you have no idea why this guy reacted in this way. It would appear that you did *something*, yet unfortunately you've no idea what it was. It reminds me of when someone drifts across a lane right in front of you and you press the horn and then they look at you with a blank look with no idea what they've done.
