Reporting bad driving
I suspect that a lot could be done to contain some of the worst driving if only there were a quick and easy way for other motorists to report them - effectively. That ability might...

Ed Chilada presented the following explanation :

When it is absolutely safe to do so and sight lines permit it - I do as a matter of course cut corners. That however was not the reason I was catching him up without really trying.

It was down to the simple fact that I know how to steer a vehicle and the safe speed for the bends, without having to continually correct and loose speed unecessarily in panic braking. He was doing the fast in slow out all over the road. I was doing the slow in fast out, it was difficult not to keep catching him up a little with him driving so badly.

Now just a minute, I was not in any sort of rage at all. Impatient, no - I waited for a safe opportunity to overtake and made proper use of that opportunity. I was behind a convoy of three cars doing 30mph in a 50. The convoy might well have intended to progress, onto the same road I was to take, where opportunities to get past safely would have been much more difficult to find.

The only rage apparent, was his, if that is what it was - but I'm not even sure that was what it was. For all I know he might well have been having a row with his female pbuttenger.

All I know for certain was that I overtook him cleanly, then he appeared to deliberately cut me up exiting the roundabout, that he then drove like an absolute plonker for several miles during which I fully expected him to disappear through an hedge at any time. I had the three 9's dialed in ready to go, that is not an indication of rage. I only narrated the incident because I thought someone might be able to see some sensible explanation for what transpired.

I wasn't entirely happy about the way he cut me up, but it happens. Had he been able to handle the vehicle at all reasonably he would have been long gone and well out of my way, I was not in that much of a hurry - just trying to make reasonable progress. I certainly didn't chase him, he just happened to make the very same turns I would be making anyway. I was following the Satnavs route to my eventual destination.

1. Did he think I was indeed chasing him and he was panicking? If so why take a turn down a relatively quiet country road away from the main road he was on?

2. Was he simply trying to demonstrate how fast he could drive to me or his pbuttenger?

3. Was it blind rage, so blind that he seemed to take the wrong road and had to turn back?

4. Was he having a blazing row with his pbuttenger, deliberately trying to frighten her by throwing the car about the way he did?

Why the hell cut me up in the first place, he had no reason to do that other than someone had overtaken him?

A very puzzling incident!
