You don't need to know your speed as a numerical value. You need to know that it is below a particular value, which is quite different matter, and involves even less brainpower.
As an example of this sort of think, try asking someone who has just looked at their watch what the time is. They will almost always give another, longer look - the first, quick, one establishes relative time very quickly but the second one is needed to work out what the time actually is.
Similarly, all you have to do, every so often, is check that the wee red needle is to the left of the 30 (or 40 or ... 70) marking. How much to th eleft is irrelevant. After that, engine noise and other indications (like the view) help maintain a relative constant speed - the speedo check just eliminates calibration drift.
What are 'speed' cameras for 5427But I didn't. I followed it to "people who get caught by speed cameras are fast and inattentive drivers, by definition, and therefore likely to have more (inattentive...
A negligable amount of time. And the same goes for the radio, the rev counter, adverts, attractive members of the appropriate love walking past, interesting parked cars, heater controls ...
Oh.
They only catch inattentive speeders. Inattentive drivers have more accidents. Speeding drivers have worse accidents.
