I was right..you do drive with your eyes closed. You'd be one of them. You've already demonstrated you have no idea how fast you're roughly travelling. There doesn't need to be a safe speed to look at the speedo. What you need is, which you decide from actually looking at whats going on a bit further than the edge of your bonnet, a PLACE where it is safe to do so.
You're an even worse driver than I thought! Despite allegedly having all this experience, you have no observational skills, you can't judge speed and you're incapable of making a decision whether it is safe to glance at the speedo or not.
I suspect from your post that you're sorely in need of an IAM course.
