What are 'speed' cameras for Approved: wibbleOn 22 Apr 2005 16:36:31 GMT, Ian Johnston was popularly supposed to have said: You're missing the point entirely. Most of the time, people regulate speed by working on how fast the world is...
Conor used his keyboard to write :
I drive with my eyes open ALL of the time!
Absolute speed is not a priority, a safe speed is! Of course I know roughly what speed I am doing, but different vehicles give widely varying impressions of speed. I therefore need to regularly check and correct. At those times I am spending my time checking, feel exposed taking my attention away from the road.
........Says an armchair theoretical driver!
As I have already indicated, the places where the cameras are located is NOT usually a suitable place to need to have to check your absolute speed. If the cameras are (as they are supposed to be) at the spots where accidents occur, then it is the road where your attention should be, not looking down at your speedo.... That at least applies to those drivers who do take their standard of driving seriously.
I have done a far better and more useful course than the IAM, but thank you for your misplaced concern!
Just pbutted the driving test and IAM have you? I would guess you drive the same road(s) constantly and dealing with strange roads, traffic, navigating whilst under pressure, as well as keeping your eye on the speedo might well be beyond your normal life experience.
