I live in the world of 55mph and lower interstate speed limits. There is no difference in the ticket between 75 and 85mph if I recall correctly.
Not pbutting and getting it over with causes far more havok and danger IME than pbutting at a slow differential. If you're worried about a semi or something the best thing you can do is spend as little time in the danger zone along side it as possible.
Who's talking about wedging? And if you think that's my driving style how do you explain the countless times I move right to let faster traffic by? I've been known to move over and let people by even when there is someone blocking my forward progress. I let them ride that person's butt.
Maybe he's like you, he just doesn't see a reason to pbutt and get it over with. He's concerned for safety and won't pbutt at good differential so he slows down. With no traffic next to him he's more comfortable with higher speeds. I don't see a significant difference in logic or behavior here. I've encountered drivers like that and ones like you and honestly I see the actions as equivelent. In fact, I've seen the same driver do both. Drive really fast then move over into the pbutting lane and block other people by slowing down and micropbutting.
