Over the years, the Corolla has gotten bigger a couple of times in the wake of the expanding Camry. (There are a few of each, 1986 through the early aughties, in the family. All have given excellent service.) The last Corolla I drove as a rental was a very appealing car, quiet and comfortable and laid out inside to have more perceived useful room than you'd expect from its outer dimensions. A somewhat sporty model is available now as well.
Try it on for size and see if you can live with it or need to move up to a Camry. (The best economic advice is usually to buy the smallest sort of car that will fill your needs over the next few years, buttuming that one of high quality is available. Recent gas prices provide a sharp reminder of the advantage of this. Be sure to ask your insurance agent which cars are more or less expensive to insure, too; the results can be a bit counterintuitive.)
Aack! Had a CT experience. 4262I wouldn't be surprised if the highway patrol encourages them not to, at least if the gator ends up in a traffic lane. "Hey, this walking...
Compebreastors to the Camry are numerous; this clbutt is the heart and soul of today's American pbuttenger car market, and just about everybody other than boutique manufacturers has such an offering. The Nissan Altima would be on my automatic shortlist and the Honda Accord is also very popular. I've heard good things about the newish Chevvies like the Cobalt but haven't driven one. And of course there are the Saturns -- both the originals and the new larger sedans are objects of great devotion among some people.
The New Beetle is a very nice car that strikes me as sort of straddling these clbuttes, and has beaucoup room within, although the performance of the dollar against the Euro these days is not in your favor. (That sort of thing comes and goes and should be re-examined if your decision is not immediate.) Volkswagen also has a turbodiesel option in some cars.
Anyway, you've got plenty to choose from, and if you feel Toyota has done well by you, that's still considered one of the good choices.

Think carefully about how fast you like to drive and how heavily you load the car, though. Transverse mounted V6's in front wheel drive cars tend to be something of a pain to work on, and aren't quite as good on gas. They certainly are happier if you tend to carry a lot of pbuttengers and-or stuff; but don't make a blanket buttumption that only a V6 will do if a well sorted out modern I4 is the base engine on some of the models you're considering.
