California, I buttume? Oregon and Washington must be similar.
It's not too bad.
You will, during the exam, drive only within a couple of miles of the DMV office itself. The last time I took the Driving Test was 30 years ago, and the test took about 30 minutes. It will probably be a mite bit shorter than that, now. (The motorcycle skill test, as of 1983, only lasts about 5 minutes)
The MAIN THING they STILL look for is this: MAKE SURE you look back over your shoulder, when backing up. It is an AUTOMATIC FAIL if you don't, and it is still the most common error!
What's the Road Test like 3000Call them and inquire about it. It would be best to try driving on the highway when traffic is relatively light before you take the test...
I know, it's ridiculous. Many vehicles I have driven require the mirrors, because there is no way you can "look back over your shoulder" in many cases, as there is no window at all, or it is totally obscured-blocked. But, resist the urge to back up using the mirrors. Look out the back window - they don't care if you have sonar, or a rear mounted vidcam with a plasma screen display!
The other person is the uphill-downhill park maneuver. It's not an automatic fail, but it's major points off, if you get it wrong. Logic applies, but there are four scenarios, so study the handbook, and learn them well. Know which way to crank the steering wheel! uphill-downhill curb-no curb
IHTH.
