a box has brought this to us :
A lot doing it does not make it the right way to do it.
I indicate as a matter of course even if I am the only vehicle in sight. You might well think you are the only vehicle around, but does not necessarily mean you are nor that there are no pedestrians about.
You don't see why they should indicate? ...A matter of courtesey, a matter of making clear your intensions, a matter of other drivers being able to plan around your intended manouver, a matter of claiming your right to make the manouver.... As in no one should pbutt you on your right if your right hand indicator is on and the same for your left.
Your crawling along the motorway at 50 could mean you intend continueing straight on or turning off. Why leave other drivers guessing about your intentions?
What about the the drivers coming up behind you at 70 and left to guess which way you are intending to go? What if one of them had prejudged his speed to hit the empty slip road without slowing from 70 expecting to be able to pbutt you on your left, after all the indications are that you intend to continue on the motorway? There you are turning onto the slip road at 50 and without any warnings of your intention.
It takes almost no effort to give a proper indication of your intentions, why not just do it? By giving the left turn signal you are claiming slip road and no one should attempt to pbutt you on your left. Remember no signal from you means I can expect to be able to overtake you on your left once I am on the slip road.
A failure to give proper and timely indications of intention is probably the most annoying part of modern driving for me.
