I do sometimes trickle along L1 at 60 for miles. Your reading of intentions might buttume I was approaching a slip road at 60 with the likely intention of turning off. How much better life would be if everyone gave the proper signals and the guessing were to be removed from the situation. I make a conscious decision to ALWAYS give a proper and adequate signal.
The 'maybe, maybe not' sounds as if in identical circumstances you might fall either way... Why is that?
Someone following me on any road can be absolutely certain I will give the proper indications and without fail, everytime irrespective of whether I can see them behind me.
On motorways the speeds are so much faster and the concequances of errors potentially so much greater. I give the proper signal when I am intending to join a motorway, at least (though my intentions are obvious) it might help catch someones eye. I give the proper signals when I change lanes, I dislike those who drift lane to lane without any indication of intention. I also give a correct and proper signal when I intend leaving the motorway via the slip road. I try to leave no one in any doubt of my intentions and will continue to do so.
On those points we can agree :-)
Even the standards of police driving has declined dramatically over the years since I first took my tests. These are the people who should be setting an example to the rest of us and pulling over those who's standards of driving is inadeqaute, yet it seems anything goes these days.
I remember being in a friends car when he was pulled and fined for not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign. I also remember another friend being done for failing to give a left turn signal at a roundabout. On both occaisions there was not a soul in sight and the police vehicle was quite well hidden. I very much doubt this would happen these days, as enforcement of the rules seems to be limited to the easy 'speed and cameras'.
....So why do you not set a perfect example to everyone else by making sure you always give the correct and timely indications?
