Mark Foster laid this down on his screen :
more power to their elbowThis exactly the reason why we took the decision we did - kids do not ALL get into trouble. Some kids do get into trouble at an early age because they are given free reign...
I choose the highest gear that is useful, if I don't require either power or acceleration. If trying to hold a to speed limit, then it takes much more application of accelerator to increase speed, than is the case with a lower gear. Often I will use 5th in a 30 limit and when I need acceleration will drop straight down to 3rd or even 2nd.
I also find (my own personal) use of higher gears-lower revs to be much more economical, than lower gears. This is perhaps due to the fact that easing off on the accelerator causes a much less sudden decrease in speed (when trying to maintain a set speed), plus the fact that it obviously takes much less energy to spin an engine at low revs than high ones.
more power to their elbowIt looks like it's down to the kids to enforce the rules when ignorant car drivers flout the rules and endanger people. Shouldn't all residential back streets be designated as "play streets...
Incidently, on the use of gears.....
A long time ago, I became used to driving the old style low revving diesel engines. The first time I drove a modern high revving diesel (first generation), I made the error of trying to drive it at the low revs I had become used to. I drove it the 200 miles to London before I had realised how much higher it was capable of revving.
