Whilst it is certainly true that minor speeding is still endemic (largely due to the idiotic decision to paint speed cameras bright yellow), Only an idiot thinks that decision was anything but absolutely correct.

Opinion on this is divided with neither one being confined to idiots, so I think that is a little arrogant and insulting.

Speed cameras have NOT been introduced with the aim of catching law breakers, but rather with the aim of deterring people from breaking it.

In your opinion. Others might say they have been introduced to capture an income stream by punishing minor infringements from safe and responsible drivers, and that deterrence has a lesser priority than maintaining that stream.

They can only act as a deterrent if they are seen.

I'm not sure how you reach that conclusion. If you *know* there are cameras but cannot see them, this will have a greater deterrent effect than from the visible ones, since you can never be sure that your decision to speed at any particular place isn't going to get you caught.
