I have twice recently put myself and my pbuttengers at risk of collision be adhering to the advisory speed limit flashed up on the matrix sign on the centre reservation. This most recently on a 2 lane stretch of the M2 when an illuminated sign showed 40 mph. I foolishly slowed down to 40 mph and for the next one and a half miles had cars flying by me at near enough twice my speed. Eventually we discovered that lane 2 was closed for roadworks.
Who was at the wheel" case to be heard. 575This is the version the Camera Partnerships would have you believe. In fact the truth is that cameras have generated monolithic cash hungry quangos full of committees and fake road safety executives...
I appreciate that the fault lay with the other cars not slowing, and my explantion for their behaviour is that they now ONLY see the need to slow where cameras are in place. It's as if the powers that be have devalued the importance of other roads signs that do not issue "fines".
No fines! DLF. (Drive like fury! - or similar)
Nonetheless ....... I am now adjusting my policy to one of not slowing to the indicated speed when other cars are around, as to do so could result in an accident. Up to now, It seems like I'm the fool for being the only one to slow down.
