This is the version the Camera Partnerships would have you believe. In fact the truth is that cameras have generated monolithic cash hungry quangos full of committees and fake road safety executives, who are making a very cosy living out of the cameras. The myth that the police had been freed up to catch criminals was a lie. In fact, ALL the mobile camera vans operated in Kent, are manned by police civillian support staff, employed by Kent police, who WOULD be out, admittedly under-trained but catching criminals if they were not out raising money for Gordon Brown's speed tax.
They are also one of the most unruly hypocritical mobs you have ever met. Without exception they have all been told they have no power to break the speed limit. However, because they have been given vans that look similar to Police vans, many flagrantly speed with impunity. They speed over the very roads and past the very schools that their partnership claim are the most dangerous.
Partnerships have used their money to buy advertising from and silence their local radio stations who were critical of them. They use intimidation and knowledge of police systems to quieten opposition. They have on occasions been ordered by Advertising Standards to remove advertising where they had published dishonest claims of "lives" saved.
The camera industry is also growing rapidly. They are ignoring ACPO guidelines which they mock. In the case of The Kent & Medway Camera Partnership, they have claimed there are no rules controlling them; they said "we can do what we like".
OK .... so what has this got to do with observing the laws on speed. Everything. It would be a similar story if the Fire Service measured the safety of our home by the amount of smoke coming out of the chimney, instead of issues such as 1) do they smoke in bed? 2) Do they have smoke detectors or 3) Are there electrics faults in the dwelling. It's far easier to measure smoke coming out of a chimney and they could easily raise millions by fining for it. But let's not forget, road accident figures have barely changed in recent years, in spite of the fact that the partnerships claim to have saved thousands of lives !!!!!
