Who was at the wheel" case to be heard. 581

No.

Those words do NOT misapply the advice.

They simply say that if it is not POSSIBLE to follow it, then you don't have to.

It didn't.

You haven't yet made that point, you keep making another superficially similar one.

Yes. And you have now agreed with me.

Uno-Hoo! I tend to go for a bit of both. People are driving generally because...

One that should never have been built that width.

They *should* always be designed such that a normal family sized car can fit on with enough room to open all doors.

If they aren't that wide, then that is stupidity on the part of the designer, unless the house was designed without a drive at all, and that is all the room a later occupant has to put one in.

Well it will be difficult to actually get figures, so both of our opinions are just that.

Most suburban semis that I am personally aware of have wide enough drives.

Why lorries have accidents at night... It is close to midnight outside a pizza parlour - and four cars nearby are waiting...

I'm not saying that all doors should necessarily be openable *fully* (although that is preferable of course), but they should be openable far enough to allow all pbuttengers to get out easily.

I now. That was me clicking "Change" too quickly in my spellchecker. They still don't. Sorry, but I do not agree...

As I have said, I certainly accept there are plenty where it is a problem. But I do not think it is nearly as many as half.

But that is purely my impression, based on experience (and I don't know any millionaires).

Your impression is obviously different.

No.

If it is *possible* to open the drivers' door far enough to be able to get out, then you *can* reverse in.

It is only when you can't do it without damage that you *can't* reverse in.

Mark Foster Some do, but then they drive everywhere at 40-45 even on clear NSL roads...

It means that it is always "ill-advised", even if it is your only choice. You can't always take a well-advised choice.

Fair enough.

Good.

That does, of course, make a large difference to the safety aspect.

They are.

But it would need to be impossible to park on the drive such that doors both sides can be opened, not just difficult to do so.

That is reasonable, in your circumstances.

It is less safe.

While you previously argued that it was safer.

Whether it is actually *dangerous* is unlikely, provided you do have a good sight line while reversing out.

It is less safe.

In many cases, it will still be "safe enough".

But many people do it even when they don't have good sight lines, and then it *is* dangerous unless they always have somebody able to stand behind them to guide them out. -- Alex Heney, Global Villager Circular logic will only make you dizzy. - Peri To reply by email, my address is alexATheneyDOTplusDOTcom
