Who was at the wheel" case to be heard. 584

Uno-Hoo!

I tend to go for a bit of both. People are driving generally because they have a need to get somewhere. The limit is *usually* set below the speed they would go at if the limit was not present, so the limit becomes the 'limiting' factor.

Serves me right to be tailgated? If you don't know this section of the A162, it's the final few miles leading to...

But I don't think that removing a 30 limit will mean people driving round at 90mph through towns...

Criminals every one of them. They should be down to 30 before they get to the signs.

There are several villages I know of where it used to be NSL-60mph through the middle, and houses and paths were planned appropriately - there were very few problems. Then the latest wave of political speed limits came in and suddenly it's 30mph. Oh, and a Gatso because somebody decided to commit dissolution by throwing himself in front of a truck. Nothing to do with speed kills, if it had been 30 at the time he would have done it a mile away on the 60mph road.

No. But I do believe they would slow down to the speed they perceived to be safe. And if speed limits were set *as they used to be* then they would use the limit as a hint as to the level of unseen hazards that are present.

Why lorries have accidents at night... It is close to midnight outside a pizza parlour - and four cars nearby are waiting to be crashed into innocent drivers...
