No, they're not.

no, they're not.

Since when was a "county engineer" an elected position?

Slowing down isn't going to improve safety. Keeping up with the flow of traffic *is.*

statistics and studies say otherwise. The majority, or at least a very significant minority, of drivers have been exceeding the speed limit on many freeways since at least the mid-1970s when the double nickel was introduced. Now today, 30+ years later, we've made vast advances in vehicle technology. Heck, back then the family heaver still had drum brakes and bias ply tires! Four wheel independent suspensions were reserved for exotic racing machinery, and a 70-series tire was "low profile." And yet today in most places the speed limit is barely back up to what it was pre-1974, and sometimes not even that high. People recognize this, and drive accordingly. At normal highway speeds - by that I mean the speeds that people are actually driving - an average, modern vehicle is farther within its performance envelope than an average late-60's car at 55 MPH, therefore safety *and* speed have increased at the same time. And yet people like you would like to stop progress - for no apparent reason.

Um, actually, I do. Everyone does. It's called free will. Now, if you attempt to do something about it and I end up in court, I will challenge the law. It's called civil disobedience, and it's how bad law gets changed. Unfortunately, most jurisdictions know this and traffic speed enforcement is kept to a level such that public outcry won't reach the tipping point. Anyone who *does* really have their poo together and appears prepared to mount a serious challenge, usually ends up having their ticket dismissed so they can't appeal to a higher court. It's all about the benjamins...

Were speeding actually criminalized, you'd likely see speed limits raised nearly overnight.

Driving like maniac" speeder kills 10 year old boy Lawyer calls it an accident Sender
Gave us: Bullpoo. The civil engineer in that county is the guy that determines what the speed limit that gets posted...

Huh?

Another big man behind the keyboard. I'd like to see you act like you do here in public. Or maybe you *do* and that's why you have so much free time to blather on Usenet. The thing about the old west was, as long as there were enough decent people around, the nutjobs didn't last long. So your little crusade would come to a swift end.

NunYa Bidness Real people brake when they are about to collide with something. In fact, they usually floor the pedal and go into a slide, instead of threshold...

You make no sense. I literally cannot figure out what you're trying to say there.

If someone as obviously deranged and antisocial as you thinks I'm an idiot... eh, I'm OK with that.
