How to pee Off an Arrogant Pedalcyclist
My wife and I went for a walk this afternoon. The sidewalk was very narrow - only wide enough for my wife and I to walk side by side. As we walked, our son (who is...

I liked the simplicity of the old Beetles, which is why I owned three of 'em at one point. They were air cooled (actually oil cooled to be precise) which means you never had to deal with radiator or coolant issues. There was only one belt to change and it could be changed with a ratchet in about five minutes. The only tough part to work with, iirc, was the starter which was located over the right rear wheel, so the car had to be jacked up and the wheel removed to get to it. The really old Beetles (early '50s?) didn't even have that but were instead hand-started by inserting a metal crank into a small hole at the back of the car and then giving it some muscle.

My '58 did not have the then-optional fuel gauge, so I would check the fuel level by opening the front bonnet, unscrewing the gas cap and putting a dipstick into the tank to check how much gasoline was in there. Ah, the good old days. These days they probably have a computer which tells you verbally that you're low on gasoline and displays the location of the nearest gas station on your DVD monitor or some damn thing.
