Why do we in the UK drive on the left while most other countries drive

Shall we run some calculations? Round here 55p-mile 1 for a bus trip is about right.

Now let's say that every year you buy a new (old) car (pre 2001 less than 1549cc) with 12 months MOT but no tax for £250 (easily done) then scrap it and get another at the end of the MOT. working on 30mpg and £1 a L petrol with insurance at £400 (you could do a lot better than that you would be looking at travelling 2000miles before using a car is cheaper for one person than a bus that would be 200 days commuting 5 miles and never going anywhere else. With an old car and 2000 mile limited policy it should be easily possible to get it down to 1500 miles a year before the car becomes cheaper than a bus at that point you are look at commuting trips that are walkable. Busses really are only suitable for where you need to move a large number of people through a relatively short distance over a compressed time period. Say the centre of a major city. In rural areas they cause more problems and pollution than they could ever hope to solve.
