I know perfectly well how to ovetake, but I am perpared to show courtesy to other road users. To overtake safety I need to know that there is room to do so, and that there will be somewhere to pull into when I have completed the manouvre. If I cannot be sure of this, I don't overtake.
The problem with overtaking a long procession is that you cannot be sure that someone ahead of you in the queue won't pull out in front of you, and that the other drivers ahead of you will allow you space to pull back in if you need to do so. In fact some may deliberately obstruct you, taking exception to your attempt to jump the quese.
For this reason, such overtaking can be risky, and i will not take unnecessary risks. I may be confident I have the acceleration and space to get past, but I may not be confident about the actions of those ahead of me in the queue which could be such as to embarrbutt me.
I much safer way, as I said before, if for a vehicle that is causing a hold up to pul in and let the others overtake if the driver is not prepared to, or cannot increase speed.
