Women are the safest drivers

Certainly the insurance companies consider women to be safer drivers - and that is based on claims records.

My own view is that women are 'safer' drivers - but most certainly not because they are 'better' drivers. Someone who drives everywhere at 15 mph is unlikely to every have an accident for example - but that does not mean that they are a good driver.

IMO women have fewer accidents because they are, in general, more 'timid' on the road.

They rarely take chances, will wait ages and ages at road junctions before deciding to pull out, will rarely overtake anything other than milk-floats, and will never attempt to 'squeeze' through a gap that a London Bus could get through! (I've lost count of the number of times that I have driven my Rover 75 between a car waiting to turn right and the kerb - only to see in my rear view mirror a woman driver in a Micra, or Fiesta, stop because she doesn't think she can fit through the gap. This despite the fact she has just witnessed a larger car drive straight through!)

Although there are exceptions they generally do not drive as fast as males and so they have fewer serious accidents. They do, however, have far more smaller bumps because they are often pretty useless at parking and judging the width of their vehicles.

Now I'll sit back and wait for the flack!

Speed Kills Slow Speeds
Here's an interesting recent story, that has happened to an old friend of mine. I'll try...
