Worst Driving Experience Ever 141

Following up to Cessna172

No, its the accepted one as reported by dictionaries and used by the english speaking peoples.

Agreed, which does not stop it being dangerous. You see "dangerous" does not mean "will take sentient action to harm you"

Following up to Cessna172 nobody is arguing otherwise. But it isn't the point. You cant have a personal definition of what words mean. This has nothing to do with driving or roads...

didnt we look at avalanches etc last time? I remember some pretty contorted logic about them only being dangerous if someone was there. The lengths people go to to prove black is white!

Agreed, a driver can be dangerous and a car can be in dangerous condition which does not stop roads being dangerous. You see "dangerous" does not mean "will make mistakes that harm you"

A loaded gun or an unstable stick of explosive are considered dangerous in the english language, even though you will tell me it needs someone to fire or kick it, which while correct, is irrelevant. The tree at the bottom of my garden was in a dangerous condition, so it had to be cut down. The Thames sometimes runs dangerously fast and they close it to hire craft. Its a good word but doesnt imply anything about concious actions or any action at all. A dangerous bend is one where a bad driver makes a mistake and crashes. The crash is an accident and the fault of the driver, the bend is still dangerous and could be made safer by redesign. To think english is used otherwise or to not consider changing the road because "roads can't be dangerous" is absurd.

I think that covers the first 1000 posts from last time. -- Mike Reid
