Yesterdays BellEnd

Coming back from Norwich last night: A11-A14-M6-Tolly-M6.

Pootling along the M6 Toll, in lane 1 doing about 75-80. Two cars in front of me, also in lane 1, doing the same speed. Started to catch up to a 04 E-Clbutt Merc in lane 2 doing about 60, nobody else around on the motorway. The car two-ahead of me (Vectra) pulled out into lane 2, then lane 3, overtook, back into lane 2, and finally lane1, cutting up the Merc nicely to try and communicate to him that he was a breast.

The car 1 ahead of me (Laguna) just cruised past the Merc on the inside in lane 1, which I thought was quite amusing. On another day, I may have done the same. Not today, I thought I better do it properly. Just as the Laguna was level with the Merc, I moved into Lane 2 as part of a manouvre to overtake the Merc. So now, there's a Laguna in lane 1, Merc in lane 2, and me in lane 2 a few cars distance behind the Merc, imagine a lower-case letter r, reversed.

What did the Merc do? He slammed on his brakes. And I mean *slammed* on. So much so that I saw his rear pbuttenger put their hands onto the back of the pbuttenger seat headrest to stop themselves flying forward. So of course, I quickly moved into Lane 3, overtook him, and joined lane 1 back behind the Laguna.

A quick look in my mirror 30 seconds later showed the Merc still in lane 2.

I have absolutely no idea why the Merc slammed on. Did he panic because someone was undertaking him? Did he fall asleep? Is he a bell? I had a look when pbutting him, and he looked like he was in his 60's.

I don't know what my point is. The thing that really chaffs my nips, is that I could easily be fined £60 and earn three points for doing 90 on the M6 Toll, completely safely. And this knob will just carry on causing congestion, and driving dangerously.

If there were more police patrols on the motorways, perhaps poor driving and lane indiscipline could be eradicated? On that point, when I first started driving as part of my job, I would probably see between five and ten police patrol cars on a 200-mile M6-M1 journey. Now, it is usual for me to see none at all.

Dan
