Even one false alarm is too much. If every car with an alarm cries wolf even once in a while, that's still a LOT of obnoxious, needless noise pollution.
My sleep is still disturbed even if your alarm shuts off after two minutes.
Despite your apparent belief to the contrary, some people DO sleep during daylight hours, so that excuse doesn't absolve you, either.
In other words, your car alarm still sucks - it just sucks less. :)
In general the answer is "no." That's why insurance companies like State Farm don't offer a discount for people with car alarms; their actual claim histories, upon which their rates are based, do not show any statistically significant difference in claim rates between cars with alarms and cars without.
That might be due to your alarm, or that might simply be due to the placebo effect.
Over the last 20 years or so I've owned over a dozen cars with NO alarm systems and none of them were ever stolen, broken into, or vandalized.
In other words, what proof do you have that your lack of theft or vandalism is due to the presence of an alarm system in your car? Are yoiu sure you're not just rationalizing your decision to pay through the nose to have your car dealer install an alarm for you?
Let me guess: you were in the Finance Manager's office filling out the paperwork, and he hit you with the standard high-pressure sales pitch for the high-profit add-ons like fabric and paint protection, extended warranty, and, of course, the alarm system, right? Did you REALLY want the alarm, or did you just say "OK" because you were tired and wanted to get the hell out of there? ;)
Yet Another Person Who Hates Car Alarms 2076Allstate still offers a discount for certain alarms. Placebo effect? What the hell is that? Evidently, you live-work in a safer area than I do. I didn't pay anything extra for...
That's fine. Just get a silent one and everyone will be happy. :)
