I'm going to tell you about a TOP RATED AUTOSURF program that takes 5 mins of your day and then...

I got a rude lesson on this subject when I was 19. Owned a 10-speed bike which was my only transportation at the time. I had a part time job at a small-town downtown deli, REALLY part time, basically just one or two hours at lunchtime Monday through Friday. They had a small parking lot that held about 20 cars, with half of them lined up along the wall. There was no bike rack, and no room inside the deli to park my bike, so I would lock it to a signpost next to the building wall, about 10 feet from the front door. So even though the place was small, it was very popular and really hopped at lunchtimes. I was greatly shocked one day to end my shift and find that my bike had been stolen. Bright sunny day, in a busy parking lot, close enough to the front door that any number of people could have seen it and yet nobody did. I looked around a little to see if I could find any evidence to give the cops. The lock was sitting on the ground, but nothing else, not even the cable. The lock had obviously been pounded with something, but they gave up on that and cut the cable. So the thieves must have been there for several minutes and yet nobody thought to themselves "hey, they're pounding on that bike lock, I wonder if they're up to no good".

It's not only in New York City where people play deaf and blind to crime.
