Or disengage cruise to slow slightly to wait for a car to pbutt, or slightly increase speed (bearing in mind it will auto resume if you've accelerated, then lifted off the throttle) to overtake and move back in so that I've not slowed down any faster traffic.
The other thing to bear in mind, is that when going uphill you tend to pbutt cars and when going down hill you may have others pbutting you - so a bit of planning and observation helps there, too.

Well I wasn't so much commenting on the MLOC or the outer lane-rs either, merely people who seem oblivious really - they may be in the inside lane, but as soon as they encounter anything slower in the lane they're driving in, the first thing they do is brake, even if the rest of the motorway is almost deserted, then after they've slowed a bit, they seem to look around and find there's no reason why they can't pbutt in an overtaking lane.
It's a little comical to watch, you can see it unfolding they approach, brake lights go on as the first, almost surprised reaction, they slow, seem to look around, discover there's nothing approaching or obstructing, then move out, accelerate and pbutt the slower vehicle.
