Similar, but not quite the same. It's all down to impatience and plain stupidity. My overtaking "rule" is... (1) Can I see clearly for the total amount of time this overtake will take, and (2) Is the chance of completing this overtake anything less than 100%. If the answers aren't yes and no, I don't overtake, and hang back. As the saying goes, it's better to arrive late in this world, than early in the next.
IAM drivesI've had two sessions with my observer so far. The first was an buttessment, and the 2nd was a 'proper' observed drive. For some reason I've been driving worse than usual on the drive...
For those not in the know, the A483 from Ruabon (which then becomes the A5 until past Oswestry) is 3 lanes wide, split into 2 lanes (1.5 "lanes" wide).
This means you get Golf, Pbuttat, Audi & BMW drivers giving it all they've got down the invisible middle lane, normally overtaking trucks. This means that people in the other lane *have* to move right over to the left of their lane to avoid being hit by traffic coming the other way.
This is fine, until they meet someone in the middle of their lane, who isn't cowering in the ditch (I.e. who hasn't been barged out of the way). You then have a rather nasty head-on with a closing speed of up to 140mph, or even better, someone doing the same in the other direction.
Looking at the little sad bunches of flowers (many of them near bends with "poor" visibility), and being able to see (from the last place I lived) the ambulances, police cars, fire engines etc, it's clear that the locals spend more than their fair share of time driving into each other.
