Well if it was just speeding, and no element of careless or dangerous driving, I don't think it should be treated as a big deal, but that's just me. I'm afraid I don't relate very well to the official stance on road safety policy these days. I guess I belong to a bygone era of motoring, where advanced drivers were quick *and safe*, not like these stuffed shirt IAM types. OK, I know, they're not all like that - they have a few rebels of their own, thank goodness.
In my regime there would be no punishment for exceeding the NSL for people who keep out of trouble. I think there should be reasonable compliance with 30 and 40 mph limits in built up areas, and the temporary limits in roadworks areas, but the rest of it should be NSL and advisory only.
The law enforcing efforts should be concentrated on those who get involved in shunts, *especially those that cause them*, though of course this is much more difficult for the authorities to deal with. Even so, that is the system we should be moving towards, but please can it be quick - I'm running out of time. :-(
Best wishes all, Dave.
