Economy was best in 6th for all speeds. As you can see, the car is barely more economical at 80 than it is at 60, and better than at 50.

The Italians have recently raised their motorway speed limits.
When there are similar penalties for turning your domestic thermostat over 16 degrees centigrade, putting too much water in your kettle or leaving your TV on standby, you may have a point. Until then, the scale of punishment for exceeding speed limits is completely out of proportion to an environmental charge.
Additionally, fuel consumption varies so much between cars that it's highly unfair. Why should a Lotus Elise driver be limited to a speed which keeps your 4x4's emissions in check?
