You admitted right there you don't enforce the LIMIT, you enforce an arbitrary number ABOVE the limit. ("far enough over the speed limit")
Doesn't that, right there imply it's an okay law to break, as long as you don't break it by too much? I normally drive a few over the limit, but it has nothing at all to do with getting caught. It's about staying with the flow of traffic and not creating a traffic jam.
How about the cops that wait at areas where the speed limit drops from 65 to 55, and the cop sits there waiting for someone to come by at 56+ mph. I know several people who have been caught right at a speed limit change and have been ticketed for doing less than the prior limit, but more than the limit that just changed.
It seems like if it wasn't a revenue-trickery thing to me it wouldn't be the same story every time about US-101 in San Luis Obispo from several of my friends.
Why not post the signs so the limit actually would function as a limit? Maybe we should rephrase the signs as "Officers Will Enforce a Speed Limit Somewhere Above 65 MPH"?
butthole of the day 3537I fail to see the problem. Drivers are required to obey traffic laws. Speed limits are posted. A driver's choice to not comply with the law may result in a citation. If they are unaware...
I still think many people drive as is appropriate for the conditions of the road, themself, and their car. Obviously there's people that don't, but most of them are doing something more than just speeding. traffic, running red lights, and driving on medians and shoulders.
